Machine Moving & Engineering is an industry leader in the field of rigging, transporting,
lifting and positioning abnormally large or heavy items of equipment. Our Heavy Lift Division
is well geared, both in terms of specialized equipment and highly experienced human resources
to undertake projects of mammoth proportions.
Hydraulic Gantry Systems
We have a range of Hydraulic Gantry Systems ranging from 200 ton to 450 ton capacity. The 450 ton system
was used successfully to position a Rail Car Tippler at the iron ore terminal, Port of Saldanha. The Tippler with
a length of 22 metres and mass of 300 tons was raised 8 metres vertically then moved laterally over purpose built
box girders using a jack and slide system and finally lowered into position with absolute precision.
It was also used to remove the giant stern thruster from the 30 000 ton drilling ship Pride Africa in
the Cape Town dry docks. After refurbishment, the 45 ton thrusters were replaced within critically
tight time constraints.
Rolls Royce engineers flown in to attend to the mechanical overhaul and installation were impressed
by the sophistication of our equipment, which they rated world class.
The success of the major refit holds great promise for future projects in South African ports.
We have recently been involved in the mechanical installation of a stacker reclaimer at Richards
Bay Coal Terminal.
65 Ton Boom Truck
Our 65 ton boom truck can be used in a crane or forklift configuration. It is easy to manoeuvre in
confined areas inaccessible to cranes and can operate in buildings with low head room. The boom truck
provides a faster, safer and more cost effective method of moving large machines in confined spaces.
Heavy Lift Equipment
We have a comprehensive range of equipment which complement our Gantries and Boom Truck :
- Hydraulic jack and slide system capable of moving loads of up to 1000 tons in a horizontal plane.
- Hydraulic jacking systems of various configurations and capabilities.
- Crane mats and stools to facilitate precise leveling and positioning.
- Heavy lift slings and shackles.
- General rigging equipment associated with the handling of abnormal lifts.
